Why You Need To Stop Using Conventional House Hold Cleaners + DIY All Purpose Cleaner

Ah, good to have you here on the blog, friend.

We try and write blogs about topics requested by our SBA fam because we value your voice and love helping you!

With that said, this highly requested blog is all about household cleaners/multi-purpose cleansers. You've probably already heard of the negative impact of conventional multi-purpose cleaners... Yikes! This is why we wanted to give you a healthy alternative that works and is good for your overall well-being. One of our core values at Skin Balm Apothecary is living a holistic, toxin-free life to the best of our ability! I'm so glad you're with us on that journey.
So, as much as I don't want to start off on a down note, let's just go over some of the reasons you need to get rid of your conventional household cleaners! They may promise cleanliness and germ-free environments but also contain a host of hidden dangers. From harsh chemicals to environmental impact, it's important to understand the risks associated with these products and explore safer alternatives for a healthier home.

Dangers of conventional household and multipurpose cleaners:

Here are just a few of the ways these cleaners are detrimental to your overall wellbeing!

1. Harsh Chemicals and Pollution in Your Home: Conventional household and multi-purpose cleaners often contain chemicals like ammonia, chlorine, and synthetic fragrances, releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air... Uh oh! Prolonged exposure to VOCs can lead to respiratory issues, headaches, and allergic reactions! Not to mention VOCs are suggested to disrupt hormone balance. Yikes!

2. Skin Sensitization and Irritation: Constant contact with conventional cleaners, especially without protective gloves, can cause skin sensitization and irritation. This may result in dryness, redness, and sometimes even worse. We just can't have any of that!

3. Environmental Impact: Conventional cleaners are known to harm the environment. When these products reach water systems that lead to wild bodies of water (that's a whole other problem!) they can contaminate wild water sources and seriously harm the wildlife that rely on these water sources.

4. Indoor Air Quality: The harsh toxins and chemicals in conventional cleaners can negatively affect indoor air quality. People with breathing issues or sensitivities (like asthma) need to be very careful around these products. You don't want to be trapping these chemicals in your home!

5. Toxic Residues: Residues from conventional cleaners can stay on surfaces for a long time, which means they can rub off on those (children and pets) who may touch those surfaces.

6. Non-Biodegradable Properties: Many conventional cleaners are made with non-biodegradable ingredients that do not break down and are known to stay in the environment. Many of them contain "forever chemicals"... think about what that does in your body!

7. Chemical Mixing: Mixing different conventional cleaners or using them in combination with other products can lead to very dangerous chemical reactions and the release of toxic gases. You do NOT want to be breathing this in.

8. Negative Impacts on Long-Term Health: Being regularly exposed to the chemicals in conventional cleaners has been linked to long-term health issues such as breathing problems, allergies, and even hormonal disruptions!

Alternative natural and toxin-free household cleaners:

Here's the good News! It's never too late to make the switch and start working on your overall health. Every step, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. Switching to a natural, toxin-free household cleaner is a very do-able step that can make a profound impact!

Below is a list of household cleaners that are more "clean" when it comes to toxic chemicals and hormone disruptors. These aren't in order of significance.
1. Dr. Bronner's Biodegradable Sal Suds Products
2. Humble Suds All-Purpose Cleaner
3. White House Lemon Scent With Vinegar Cleaner
We're sure there are additional safe alternatives out there, but we do recommend making your own simple DIY household cleaner to ensure there are absolutely no sneaky added chemicals in there you don't know about! Plus, it's so easy and WAY cheaper!
Below is a video of our very own DIY household cleaner with simple ingredients and no harmful toxins!
