How To Make Pomegranate Powder + Its Many Uses

Hello, Hello! Glad you're here, SBA fam.

In this blog, we're going to be talking about food waste... well, not exactly. Let me explain. You know that pomegranate skin you usually just throw away, well, you've got to stop doing that! Instead, make this super easy Pomegranate Powder that can add some pretty amazing health benefits to your drinks, smoothies, baked goods, etc. Not to mention you can use this as a great DIY face mask!

One of the primary benefits of pomegranate powder is its antioxidants, as we're learning in this blog. Pomegranate powder contains both punicalagin and punicic acid (I know, a mouth-full), two powerful antioxidants that are known to be three times as effective as green tea! Crazy. 

Because of how amazing the Pomegranate fruit is and how many benefits it has, it's a main ingredient in our Glow Balm!  Well, Pomegranate seed oil is, at least. The rind shares many of the same great ingredients too!

Before we get into the recipe, I just want to take a minute to explore why the rind of this fruit is so beneficial. Let's learn! 



  1. Antioxidant boost: Pomegranate powder is "packed with antioxidants! Antioxidants are essential for helping to protect and heal your body from toxins. 

  2. Heart-friendly: Some studies suggest that pomegranate powder could help to lower blood pressure, reduce "bad" cholesterol, and improve overall heart health. It could help reduce the risk of heart disease as well (along with a healthy diet, of course!)

  3. Soothes inflammation: Pomegranate powder has anti-inflammatory compounds, which can help reduce inflammation in your body! 

  4. Happy digestion: The fiber in pomegranate powder helps with digestion, and can ease and prevent constipation. Overall, it supports good gut health. Yes, please!

  5. Radiant skin: The antioxidants in pomegranate powder can protect your skin from damage and increase collagen production, potentially reducing the appearance of scars. Keep reading to learn how you can use this powerhouse powder as a face mask!

  6. Immune support: Pomegranate powder contains vitamin C (along with other great vitamins and minerals), which helps to support your immune system and can help produce collagen! Pretty cool. 


These are just a few of the incredible benefits... but enough of that, let's learn how to make it!


Instructions & Video:

1. You can either dehydrate it naturally on a sunny window sill for 2-3 days, or dry it in the oven at the lowest setting for 2-3 hours.
2. If you choose the oven method, make sure to keep an eye on it. I highly recommend putting it in a dehydrator, or multi functional air fryer, at 135° for 12 to 15 hours. If those are not options for you, try the first two methods.

3. Add the dried peel to a spice grinder or high speed blender, and process until it becomes powder. Store the powder in an air tight container for up to one month.


1. If adding to a smoothie, the recommended amount is 1/2 - 1 tsp. per 8 ounces.

2. If using on face, do a patch test first and then start with 1 tsp. Apply like you would our Coffee Polish, but with much less pressure since this is a bit more abrasive.
